In this post Andrew talks a bit about gender-neutral pronouns.  Since introducing “thon” in the comic I’ve used it casually in place of “they” in later comics once or twice, being the trouble I want to see in the world, etc.

Any new gender-neutral pronoun is going to sound weird (we use pronouns ALL THE TIME in English, and any changes to them will stand out like crazy no matter what we do), and if you’re not happy with sacrificing strict plurality accuracy to get gender neutrality (“they”), I can think of no better word than “thon”.  If it’s going to sound weird, let us embrace the weirdness.  THON CAN THINK OF NO BETTER WAY TO EMBRACE ALL CONCEPTIONS OF GENDER
