AOL Time Warner owns the copyright of “Happy birthday to you” and will do so until 2030 when the copyright expires.

ohyeahfacts:

For this reason movies often use different songs (which are not in copyright or are owned by the studio) for birthday scenes. AOL Time Warner earns over $2 million per year from royalties for the song.

Another reason that greed is the cancer of humanity.  Not cancer - cancer is the cancer of biology.  This is worse, and I don’t care if I sound crass in saying it.  Not this fact specifically, but the fact that it can happen, that a price tag can be affixed to a song like this.  No no.

Robot thinks people taste like "bacon" → collisiondetection.net

“When a reporter’s hand was placed against the robot’s taste sensor, it was identified as prosciutto. A cameraman was mistaken for bacon.”

Oh no. This is how it starts. Soon they will be harvesting us for our tasty, tasty flesh.

Not even funny, yo.  Our only hope is that all robots convert to Judaism.

Travelling to Toronto to see Stephen Wright live.  Since he’s probably going to sense me in the audience because we are sorta kindred spirits, does anyone have anything they’d like me to ask him?

So maybe you’ve heard of this Internet thing, where a lot of people get their music for free and only sometimes get busted by the RIAA - big time. Anyway, the bottom line is that less money is…

Dean Martin - Once In A While

This man will forever remind me of my mother.  I say that like she’s passed on, but she definitely has not.  Regardless, I can literally not hear Dean Martin and not think of her.

We entertain family and friends at our house fairly regularly, but especially on certain holidays.  St. Patrick’s, Labour Day, but especially - the one I hold dearest, in so, so many ways in my heart - Christmas Eve.  And in my younger years especially, when everyone had drifted off to their homes, to their sugar-plum dreams, I remember.  Just before being hustled off to bed myself so that Santa wouldn’t skip our house, my mom would put on her Dean Martin CDs and start cleaning up the kitchen.  And I’m sure I’ve fallen asleep on more than one occasion to that music.

He’s near and dear to my heart, as is - obviously - my mother.  This is pretty cutesy, so I’ll cut it out.  I suppose it’s just nice to have music like this that touches on so many great memories.  The nice thing about memories is I can have them as long as I want…

Wait, do people actually think this is serious?

I remember when this used to get spammed in the Collegehumor comments all the time. I always ignored it because I figured it was stupid spam, but this is actually hilarious.

The comments are indeed the best part.  The most satisfying result of satire like this is the rage of the people who haven’t gotten wise.
